The Outsiders book question?

I was wondering what season the book takes place in. The trees in the movie look green like it's spring or summertime, but the greasers wear leather/denim jackets and long jeans while others wear tank tops. The Socials wear short sleeve plaid shirts and stuff like that. I couldn't find any details on the season in the book. Does anyone know what season it may be?
