What connection Karunanidhi had/has in the 2G spectrum scam?

PAC has indicated that the TATAs have written a letter to Karunanidhi disclosing their displeasure on the then Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran. May I know what Karunanidhi could do in a matter concerned with Central Govt???
